PAYS DU MONT BLANC > About us

The region of the Mont Blanc is majestic. From the peaks to the gorges; from the waterfalls to the lakes and all the way to the natural reserves…this region is one-of-a-kind. If ever a mountain range were created for beauty, this would be it.

The Mont Blanc region is located in the centre of a common cultural intersection. It is home to 55,000 diverse residents in 14 distinct towns that are both economic end artisitic hubs for approximately 400 rural communities. Even if each mountain village is now considered a resort, you will still be able to find the identity, authenticity, and the cultural element of the region. Each village establishes its kind differences whilst maintaining its artistic and peaceful traditions, which gives them each a unique personality!

Theses 14 towns are united by a regional community structure named SIVOM . SIVOM help’s support various departments such as sport equipments, tourist information, school bus transportations, agricultural support, etc. On behalf of the local communities, the Mont Blanc Region, and SIVOM, we would like you to know that we aim to lead a strategic policy of development and land settlement. It is for this reason why we have established strong partnerships with institutions such as the Haute Savoie General Council, the Rhone Alpes Region, and the European Union.

The “OTTT" European program and the regional Mont Blanc traffic department.

Recently, the French Alps have become a popular route for both tourist and commercial transportation. Its heavily used routes between a major international border between Italy and France via the Mont Blanc tunnel have voiced many concerns from the local communities.

It is therefore only natural for them to take part in the European program OTTT or the Cross boarder observatory of the transalpine traffic. Facing the continuous traffic flow increase and the nuisance it generates, the groups and partners of the INTERREG IIIA project considered that it was urgent to facilitate the mobility of each person and commercial product while preserving the exceptional ecosystem that characterizes the Alpine territory, thus by promoting a sustainable development policy.

The Savoie County assembly, the French-Italian Alps Association, the Autonomous Aoste Valley Region, and the Sivom region of Mont Blanc have worked hard together to promote an environmentally safe transportation system by reducing the impact of traffic in the Alps. The assemblies of municipalities and associations are all persuaded that the territorial groups have an important role in this matter.

This inter-border co-operation created traffic regulation propositions. Such propositions include: modal reports, infrastructural security, and intellectual efficiency of combining local initiatives at a French-Italian scale. It also allowed the development of communication tools for the use of public and light transportation.

The Via Mont Blanc Mobility Commission exist with the financial participation of the European Union and of the Haute Savoie General Council.
